Thawing the Freeze Response
For when you know exactly what you need to do, and you can’t make yourself move.
Your body is pressing the gas and the brakes at the same time.
Name your price, $77 to $107 · suggested $97
You bought the original Thaw. Here’s what changed.
If you came here from my email, this part is for you. This is the third time I’ve rewritten this workshop, and I taught the new version live to my 2026 Feel Without Fear women this summer. You keep your access to the original. This is what’s different:
It’s only sold on its own through 11:59 PM US/Central on October 31. Get it before then and it’s yours for life.
You know what you need to do. You’ve rehearsed the conversation in the shower, you’ve drafted the email, and you know the boundary and the decision and the thing you need to start. And your heart is racing and your mind is running 27 different options, and you’ve decided none of them are the right one, so you don’t make a move at all.
Or it’s the other kind of stuck, where there’s barely any gas to begin with. You’re heavy and foggy and numb, and you don’t want to talk or be seen or leave the house or answer a single text, and everybody keeps telling you to just start.
Either way, you end up judging yourself for it, which also doesn’t get anything done.
Freeze is what your body does when some part of you learned that acting was impossible, or ineffective, or unsafe, or too costly.
Your body is doing exactly what it’s supposed to do, even if it’s miserable.
Why knowing it’s a freeze response hasn’t helped
You’ve probably learned the language. Freeze, fight, flight, shutdown, maybe the whole polyvagal ladder. Ok, you’re in a freeze response. Now what? What do you do with that information? Naming the state you’re in doesn’t tell you what to do next.
And everybody telling you to just push through is asking you to override a body that’s doing exactly what it learned to do. That’s why it keeps not working.
What you want
You want to make the call, send the email, say the thing. You want to rest on the heavy, foggy days without it turning into more proof that something is wrong with you. And you want enough movement back, even a little, so you have a choice again.
That’s the whole point of this workshop, to interrupt the automatic response long enough to choose what you actually want or need right now.
What this workshop gives you
The workshop is in 2 parts. The first part is understanding what’s actually happening in your body. The second part is practice. I teach you 2 mobilization practices, a breathwork practice and a movement practice, and I’m your co-regulating presence while you do them. If your body is like, nah, bitch, I’m not ready today, that is a hundred percent fine. That’s why you have a replay.
The gas and the brakes
When you’re pressing the gas and the brakes at the same time, the energy is there. Your body is ready to go, and it probably feels like anxiety or panic or buzzing, and maybe your heart’s racing. But something else is stopping the movement. You want to say it, but you can’t get the words out. You want to leave, but your legs feel heavy and they won’t move. You want to make a decision, but you keep reviewing every possible outcome and you can’t settle on any of them.
It’s like pressing the gas and the brake in your car at the same time. You spin out your wheels, ruin your tires, use up all your gas, and literally go nowhere. It’s the worst feeling in the world, I think.
The emotion running that one is judgment. That option, no. That option, no. It’s the judgment of the options that keeps us stuck, and the judgment of ourselves. But when judgment is integrated, it becomes discernment, and you slow down enough to weigh your options, and maybe find a third one you hadn’t thought of, or ask for help.
And when it’s mostly brakes
Your body can’t go, go, go with the gas and no brakes forever. When you use up all the gas, all that’s left is for your body to put on the brakes and say, I’m not going to let you do a whole lot until we replenish the stores. That’s why I think shutdown is actually a gift. Your body is trying to force you into the deep rest you probably wouldn’t take on your own.
The emotion running that one is shame. Unintegrated shame says I’m bad, so I should hide. Don’t reach out, don’t move, don’t let anyone see you like this. But integrated shame says something I did isn’t aligned with my truth, so what needs to change? It’s your own body calling you back into integrity. I tell you about the Fourth of July I almost fought a mom at a swimming hole, and what my shame was actually trying to tell me.
Also in there
We also get into capacity, which is very, very contextual. You might have the capacity for a disagreement with a stranger online, and none at all for a disagreement with your husband. Give me financial uncertainty all fucking day long, but please don’t make me wonder what you’re feeling about me if you’re my friend.
- How to know your nervous system is actually healing. Can you rest and can you play? Can you defend yourself when you need to, and shut up when talking would be a waste of energy?
- Fear-based resistance versus intuitive resistance
- Titration, or how to add just a little bit of movement at a time, so your body gets a new experience without blowing past your edge
- Why you might feel more shame or fear or overthinking after doing something brave, and why that’s expected
- For practitioners, how to offer these practices to clients with consent, so the client stays in authority over their own body
This is the third time I’ve rewritten this workshop
About 4 years ago, a friend asked me to teach her group of practitioners how to work with clients who were in a freeze response. I was really big into Polyvagal Theory back then, and very nerdy about the nervous system, so I taught it very heavily through that lens, and it went over really well. I still respect Polyvagal Theory. I just don’t teach it that way anymore, because I want you to walk away with something you can actually use.
What changes
You’re still an animal, so you’ll still freeze sometimes. But when the gas and the brakes hit, you can say it out loud: my face just got hot and my heart’s racing and I want to run. You can have a heavy, foggy day without reading it as proof you’re failing, and if loading the dishwasher is the win today, that counts. You can do the brave thing and let the contraction come afterward without making it mean anything about you.
And maybe you still yell, or you still say no. The difference is you chose it. Your nervous system isn’t choosing for you. That’s the whole point.
Questions you might have
Do I lose my original Thawing the Freeze Response?
No. If you own it, you keep your access to it. This is a separate purchase.
How is it different from the original?
It’s mostly rewritten. The original was taught very heavily through Polyvagal Theory. This one teaches you what your body is doing when it hits the gas and the brakes at the same time, or it’s mostly brakes, and it gives you 2 guided practices to get movement back.
Do I need someone with me for the practices?
I’m your co-regulating presence while you do them. If you have a trusted person who can be with you, that helps too. And if your body says not today, you have the replay.
How long is it?
The replay is in 2 parts, just over 2 hours, with the full slide deck as a PDF. It’s yours for life.
What happens after October 31?
It stops being sold on its own. After that, it only lives inside Feel Without Fear.
What should I pay?
It’s name your price, $77 to $107. The suggested price is $97. Pick the number that fits your life right now. It’s the same workshop at every number.
