How do I know if I’m in a state of immobilization (ie. “freeze”, shut down, or collapse)?

Immobilization isn’t “bad”. It’s a necessary part of our survival. But when we are in a chronically immobilized state, we aren’t living our lives to the fullest, we feel lost or purposeless, and ultimately, we feel STUCK.

We can experience immobilization in a certain part of our lives (such as feeling a creative block in writing or with work), and we can experience immobilization that dramatically affects our whole lives. Either way, if you feel stuck, hopeless, helpless, low energy or motivation, apathy, boredom, blocked, depressed, or “stuck”, you’re in immobilization.

Additionally, if you feel anxious or experience frequent panic attacks, are scatterbrained, or feel like the gas and brakes are being pressed simultaneously, these are signs that your nervous system is drifting into the immobilized territory.

 

What training or qualifications do you have to teach this workshop?

I always tell people: if you’re looking for letters behind my name to feel certain that I’m qualified, I’m not the coach or teacher for you. However, I have taken courses and trainings on the nervous system and working with different states. I’m also an avid, self-led researcher and will tenaciously search and experiment until I find what works. What makes me qualified to teach this workshop is that I have a lovely combination of head knowledge as well as embodied understanding and actual experience of working with my own nervous system and my clients’ and students’ nervous systems.

Working with the “freeze” state is probably the most challenging state of the nervous system for me as a practitioner. I have held space and supported my clients in all nervous system states, including the challenging freeze state. I can teach you how to do this for yourself or your clients if you are a practitioner.

 

What if this workshop doesn’t “work” for me?

I never promise specific results, however, I can promise that learning about your nervous system and how to mobilize your way out of freeze/collapse will not make anything worse for you. As with all new skills, mobilizing your nervous system requires a commitment to show up for yourself after the workshop to practice.

Remember, whatever is familiar to your nervous system is what is “safe”, including immobilization. If you have been immobilized for a while, it will take time and practice to widen your window of tolerance to mobilization. It is impossible to accomplish this after one workshop.

 

I can’t attend live due to a time zone difference, work issue, kid issue, etc. I still want this information. How do I get that?

You do not have to attend live to benefit from Thawing the Freeze Response. I encourage people to attend live if they can because there is powerful energy in being in group containers and you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions at the end.
