Sovereign Taper
What I learned through 5 psych med tapers, for anyone considering a slow, patient-led taper with their prescriber.
Your pace. Your body. Your prescriber on your side.
In 2019, I decided I wanted to start my first psych med taper. I had zero information about how to do it. All I knew was that I was terrified of coming off too fast and landing in withdrawal I couldn’t bear.
So I did what you’re probably doing. I scoured Google, Facebook support groups, and Reddit threads at all hours. I found some of what I needed. I also found a lot of horror stories, a lot of bad advice, and a lot of prescribers who didn’t want to support a patient who wanted to go slowly.
SOVEREIGN TAPER is the workshop I needed back then.
You have the right to decide when and how you taper, at your own pace. And you deserve your healthcare providers’ support the whole way through.
Please read this first
I am not a licensed healthcare provider. This workshop is my lived experience and what I learned along the way, shared for educational purposes only. It is not medical advice, and it’s not a substitute for your prescriber. Please don’t change or stop any medication without talking to them first, and take what you learn here into that conversation.
You are responsible for what you choose to do with this information.
What’s inside
Watch it before you ever bring it up with your prescriber, then keep the slides open for the conversation itself.
SOVEREIGN TAPER
About 2 hours, plus Q&A. With my slides.
- My story with psych meds, including benzos
- Why slow matters so much, probably slower than you think, and why fast tapers so often go badly
- Good times to begin a taper, and not-so-good ones
- How micro-tapering works, and how to raise it with your prescriber
- What to have in place before you start, and the self-care that carries you through
- How to advocate for yourself so you’re not rushed through appointments
- Noticing whether your wish to come off comes from sovereignty, or from shame about being on meds at all
Bonus workshop with Andi Rose
Pre-recorded. Herbalist and founder of Smoke & Forage.
- How herbal tinctures may support you during and after a taper
- Adaptogenic plants and mushrooms, and where they might fit
Check anything you add with your prescriber or pharmacist too, since herbs can interact with medication.
What it looks like on the other side
Not necessarily off your meds. Sovereignty means the decision is yours, whatever it turns out to be. It looks more like this.
You walk into your prescriber’s office with real questions and a pace you’ve thought through, and you leave feeling like a partner instead of a patient being managed.
You stop reading horror stories at 2am.
You can tell whether you want to reduce because it’s right for you, or because some old story says needing medication makes you weak.
Whether you taper, pause, or stay exactly where you are, you’re the one who decided.
This is for you if
- You’re on psych meds, or love someone who is, and want to understand what a slow taper looks like
- You want to have an informed conversation with your prescriber instead of being rushed through one
- You’ve already built some capacity in your nervous system
- You’re a coach, therapist, or practitioner whose clients are on medication
This isn’t for you if
- You’re brand new to nervous system and trauma healing
- You have patterns of addiction with your medication, like taking more than prescribed (chemical dependency is not the same thing as addiction)
- You’re in crisis right now. Please reach out to your prescriber or a crisis line instead.
- You’re not ready to take responsibility for your own pace, including the possibility of withdrawal symptoms
This is your last chance at it
I’m trimming my shop down to the few things I want to keep offering, and SOVEREIGN TAPER is leaving it. If you buy it now, the replay, my slides, and Andi’s bonus workshop are yours for life. Once it’s gone, it won’t be for sale again.
