“Just listen to your body!” all the practitioners say. (And you wanna eye roll for daaaaaays)
But, you’ve lived your entire life disconnected from your body. You don’t know what the fuck that actually means.
You’ve googled “how to listen to my body”. You’re following social media accounts that you hope will teach you this secret skill. If there was a secret club you could join to learn this, you’d sign up.
You’ve got great intentions and you know you’re going in the right direction — but all this searching for information about listening to your body has you coming up empty.
Nothing on the Internet can teach you what you’re seeking…
But I can.
Because this isn’t a mental, intellectual, or cognitive skill or experience. This is embodied wisdom. Primal and intuitive. Aware and present.
Imagine for a moment…
You’re so tuned in with your body that you immediately know when something is a yes or a no for you. Or, if you don’t have an immediate knowing, you trust yourself to come to a decision naturally, without force or pressure.
You’re unafraid of whatever sensations and emotions are coursing through your body.
You’re creating and living from an intuitive, grounded space.
You’re actually processing and healing trauma because you can feel it leaving your body, transforming you on a cellular level.
You’ve learned how to interpret the messages of your body so you don’t require outside information to tell you what you need anymore.
Your body speaks and you listen. Without fear or hesitation. It has become second-nature.
You remember a time when you were disconnected and dissociated from your body, and you’re so grateful to feel alive and hold expansive and contractive emotions without judging any of them.
This is what I guide you to experience in a 30-minute Somatic Listening Session.
Somatic Listening Sessions shift the head knowledge of “listen to your body” to embodied, felt understanding.
You “get it” because you feel it.
Somatic Listening Sessions ARE…
- guided sessions based in FEELING, not talking
- short on purpose, so you can titrate listening to your body without getting overwhelmed
- for you if you struggle to listen to your body or don’t know what that actually means
- about establishing an open, willing, curious, judgment-free relationship with your body
- going to help you drop out of your head and into your body to intuit primal messages of wisdom, truth, and desire
Somatic Listening Sessions ARE NOT…
- typical “life coaching” sessions where you show up, talk a bunch, tell stories, etc. and get advice
- a huge time commitment
- about fixing, diagnosing, or pathologizing any sensation or feeling you experience
- a replacement for medical or psychiatric care, but can compliment it beautifully
Here’s what a 30-Minute Somatic Listening Session is like…
You show up to the call with me on Zoom, preferably from a cozy, safe space. (Your cubicle at work is NOT the ideal spot for this work. Kids running around you is also not ideal.)
I guide you to journey into your body and notice what’s present. I’ll always encourage you to use words that describe sensation (hot, pulsing, tense, vibrating, etc.) rather than words that tend to get people lost in story (ie. “I feel disrespected” or “It feels like it’s never going to end” or “I think I feel xyz.”).
Developing this language is crucial for remaining present and not getting caught up in ego or pain stories.
If a sensation feels particularly challenging and uncomfortable, I’ll guide you with some breathwork to open yourself up and give the sensation some space.
You’ll be practicing somatic awareness and choosing to love whatever is present in your body, even if it’s uncomfortable. Through this awareness, you’ll automatically intuit and interpret the messages from your body.
For most people, being in their bodies feels scary, uncomfortable, even impossible. So, they adapt in many ways: dissociating, scrolling, drinking alcohol, taking drugs, smoking weed, over-working, online shopping, procrastinating, and more.
Many people, however, are waking up and realizing that a disconnected relationship with their bodies isn’t sustainable and desire to be more embodied.
It often feels safer to go to unfamiliar, scary places with someone rather than going alone. That’s exactly what Somatic Listening Sessions are for! I’ll be a co-regulating, guiding presence so you feel safe to inhabit your body and listen to her messages.
Once you have FELT what it’s like to listen to your body, you can practice and develop this necessary skill and ALWAYS feel connected to your Self, to your body, and its wise and loving messages for you.
