I believe we create our reality. The good, the bad, the ugly, all of it.
I also know that most people are creating their realities unconsciously — from the ego.
In his book A New Earth, Eckhart Tolle writes,
The ego is not only the unobserved mind, the voice in the head which pretends to be you, but also the unobserved emotions that are the body’s reaction to what the voice in the head is saying. […] The voice of the ego continuously disrupts the body’s natural state of well-being. […] Ego-generated emotions are derived from the mind’s identification with external factors which are, of course, all unstable and liable to change at any moment.
When we have big feelings, we think about them, right? Which often makes the feelings even stronger.
Then, we have reactions to those feelings. We make decisions and choices based off those feelings. Those decisions and choices create our reality.
Do you see?
Yes, it’s important to feel our feelings. Suppressing them, ignoring them, distracting ourselves from them, trying to change them isn’t the answer. They’re worthy of being felt.
And, yes, we can make decisions based on feelings. Just know that whether you’re reacting to emotions or responding, your emotions are fueled by thoughts and your present reality exists as a result of the choices you’re making out of those thoughts and feelings.
If you’re feeling lost or confused, I hope this episode brings clarity and understanding.
